Effectiveness of levamisole on herpetic ganglionic latency.

چکیده
Levamisole therapy was tested for its effect on herpetic trigeminal ganglionic latency in mice. There was no significant difference between recovery rate from levamisoletreated mice and that from non-treated mice during 12 weeks treatement. These results show that levamisole does not suppress herpetic ganglionic latency.

Effectiveness of levamisole on stromal herpetic keratitis.
Stromal herpetic keratitis has a poor prognosis. To date, corticosteroids appear to be the most efficatious agents against the condition. However, corticosteroids are immuno6uppresive, and may cause recurrences. The recent findings of decreased cellular immunity in the condition offer the possibility of using levamisole as the therapeutic agent. The present investigation was undertaken to evalu...
متن کاملNonspecific mitogen responses of peripheral lymphocytes in levamisole-treated patients with herpetic stromal keratitis.
For the purpose of determining the effect of levamisole on cell-mediated immunity of patients with herpetic stromal keratitis, the response of peripheral lymphocytes to three mitogens (PHA, Con A and PWM) was examined in a total of 19 cases of herpetic stromal keratitis (16 effective cases) including 12 patients undergoing levamisole administration. As controls, a similar study was made on 35 h...
متن کاملLack of levamisole effect on experimental herpes keratitis.
Levamisole, which is an anthelminthic, can restore depressed cell-mediated immunity (CMI) under some circumstances. In a controlled trial of experimental herpetic keratis in rabbits, levamisole was found to have no significant effect on acute herpetic keratitis or its recurrence rate. This is consistent with previous findings that other nonspecific CMI stimulation had no effect on recurrences o...
متن کاملImmunogenetic influence of Igh-1 phenotype on experimental herpes simplex virus type-1 corneal infection.
Patterns of herpes simplex virus type-1 (HSV-1) infection were studied in BALB/c congenic, Igh-1 disparate murine strains to establish the influence of Igh-1 phenotype on the development of keratopathy, trigeminal ganglionic latency and keratocyte permissivity. Eighty-two percent of C.AL-20 (Igh-1d) mice, 40% of BALB/cByJ (Igh-1a) mice and 12% of the C.B-17 (Igh-1b) mice developed herpes simple...
متن کاملSeverity of experimentally reactivated herpetic eye disease is related to the neurovirulence of the latent virus.
The authors examined the eye diseases produced during acute and experimentally reactivated infections of rabbits intranasally inoculated with high and low neurovirulent strains of herpes simplex virus, type-1 (HSV-1). Experimental reactivation of latent trigeminal ganglionic infection was accomplished by an injection of cyclophosphamide followed by one injection of dexamethasone the next day. N...
